Master Thesis (Technological Itinerary) or Final Master Project is a compulsory part of the academic curriculum of the Master in Civil Engineering Systems. Is worth a total of 15 ECTS, which is a workload for students between 375 and 400 hours, to be distributed at least one semester.


Final Master Project is an original work of an essentially technological, the student must develop personally and individually under the guidance of a tutor. This teacher will be appointed in each case by the Academic Committee of the Master among the teachers involved in it, although exceptionally it may be also appointed another professor in the departments involved in the Masters.

The student must choose one of the following project lines in which he/she wants to achieve his/her Master's Thesis:

The line project proposed by the student must be in tune with the rest of the Master enrolled subjects , which will be assessed by the Academic Committee, the body that ultimately must approve the line.

Once the project line has been setted and an advisor or tutor has been assigned, the student must agree with the project title (both, Spanish and English), setting its scope and the specific conditions which must be developed. Although, as noted, the work must be developed by the student on a personal and individual way, the tutor must continuously monitor the progress achieved so it is recommended to hold meetings for this purpose every two or three weeks

Final Master Project should give expressión on a document or set of documents to collect at least the following aspects:

Final Master Project can be written in Spanish or English. In any case, both the title and a summary of the work (with a 300 to 500 words) appear in both languages.


The work will be terminated when the tutor's approval, which must translate into a reasoned report to be sent to the Academic Committee of the Master, along with a copy in digital format and PDF format. The Commission will then appoint a tribunal academic assessment for the Project and to which the student must orally defend their proposal. This defense can only be carried out once the student has passed stating that the other materials that make up its academic curriculum. The Tribunal shall consist of the tutor, as rapporteur, and two other professors appointed from among those who are part of the faculty of the Master, at least one specialist in the subject of the project. Between the two professors appointed an act as president (the most senior academic and senior) and the other as clerk.

The Master Academic Commission set the beginning of each academic year in two periods which will focus the defense of individual projects. In each case the specific day and date of the act of defense, and the place to be held shall be fixed by the presiding judge and communicated to the other two members, the student and the academic committee with at least fifteen days in advance. The Academic Committee will give maximum publicity to the notice of the act of defense.


The defense of Master's final project will be public and free support. Students will be provided for presentation in a time of 20 minutes. Then, for a total time maximum of 30 minutes, members of the court may ask the student how many clarifications and questions they wish. In no circumstances will the intervention of the people attending the event.

The rating should be disclosed within 24 hours from the end of act of defense, and referred literally and numerically according to the following scale:

• Failed (<5.0)
• Approved (5.0 - 6,9)
• Grade of B (7.0 to 8.9)
• Outstanding (9.0 - 10)

Regarding the  Dissertation Research, this will be done within the research groups participating in the Graduate Program in Civil Engineering Systems.
